Say It Like You Mean It

Most affirmations don’t work, and you’ve known this for a while.

You stand at the mirror, you say the sentence, and something in you immediately answers back: no you’re not. That argument leaves you slightly worse off than before you started. So you decide affirmations are nonsense, and you stop.

But the problem was never the practice. It was the sentence.

An affirmation only works if some part of you can already agree with it. Say something your mind can flatly disprove, and it will spend the day gathering evidence against you. Say something it can’t quite disprove, and it goes looking for proof instead. Same mechanism, opposite direction. The whole art is in choosing which one you set running.

Where it takes you:

  • The lie you can’t say — the resistance, the inner accusation, and whose voice it originally was
  • Finding the true sentence — words with enough truth to be undeniable and enough reach to move you
  • Making it yours — getting it out of the journal and into your voice, your body, your day

You’ll leave with: three sentences about yourself, in your own handwriting, that you can actually stand behind.
